We've moved from the part of the summer in which people talk breathlessly about new restaurant openings into that period of the summer where people wander bleary-eyed from the beach and into whichever restaurant doesn't have an hour long wait for a table. It's too hot to be bothered and if grazing on profoundly unhealthy food is on the agenda, here's where to do it:

We've been completely mystified by the appearance of the mobile hot dog stand at the Bridgehampton train station every Friday and Sunday for the past few weeks. At first, we thought it was a mistake. Then we watched one Sunday afternoon as the traffic rolled in to get on the 4:15. No less than two dozen hot dogs exchanged hands and at $2 a pop, they're not doing bad. Plus, the taxi drivers seem to be living off the things, so that's where they're spending the $30 it costs you to get from the Bridgehampton train station to Main St. in Bridgehampton.
The Lauren family's takeover of East Hampton is nearly complete and will be further solidified by the opening of the eponymous Dylan's Candy Bar this weekend. At a mere 1,000 square feet, Dylan explains that: "It's actually a minibar... and East Hampton is the perfect place to open a cousin to our New York City flagship." Like every opening in the Hamptons, expect celebs and socialites (and their nannies) with their children in tow to be at the store on Friday. Sticky fingers are guaranteed, so we'll see how papa Ralph and Chocolate the Bunny handle a bunch of Ritalin-popping, maladjusted, sugar-infused rugrats.
Out in Montauk, there's now a large orange truck that is serving up New Orleans' style sno-balls—not to be confused with the bright pink Hostess confection. Shaved ice (of a more refined nature than New Yorkers are accustomed to finding in an Italian ice—at least according to the Times) is dished out and covered with your choice of syrups: "28 flavors, including mango, watermelon, sour apple, vanilla and chocolate."
